This is just my opinion, but District 80 is no different from most other government run schools. It IS a business, but not what you think. Sure the students will learn the basics of life's knowledge (at least most will, some won't), but the primary business of the government school is a teacher's employment agency. The school district exists to maintain their teacher "pool", keep their salaries (and retirement packages) in line with current economic conditions, and to maintain the NEA's grasp on the minds of your children, i.e. global warming BS, no one is better or smarter (don't want to hurt other children's feelings), get expelled for "drawing" a gun on paper or throwing at some one (what ever happened to "killer" dodge ball…long gone in most schools), etc. You think that's a little over the line? Ask yourself if any other business would survive the free market when their successful output (children who graduate High School) is only ~70% (or much less in larger cities). If government schools were truly in the business of teaching children, then we would not have so many failing students and unqualified, badly performing teachers. Vouchers (open K-12 education to the free market) or home schooling is the only way to go. Sorry about the rant… you hit a nerve………….. But yes, District 80 is a business...
