Unemployed – It’s liberating

After the first week of being unemployed, I think I’m pretty adjusted. I’m searching for jobs on Monster, HotJobs, and the local classifieds of course. Nothing seems to be suitable for me so far, but I’m early in the game. You would think since so many have computers, more places would need someone to maintain and assist with them.

I wonder if I could make it as freelance computer repair. Probably I’d be best at protecting new computers. They tend to come with “trial” antivirus and other programs, but I could setup antivirus, spyware protection, and a firewall that would never expire and is free.

Yes, the average consumer could do this themselves in a day or so, but would they? Usually not. Plus, I could get rid of the “crapware” like those “trial” programs Dell and Gateway ship on their systems. Just a thought.

This free time in my day has allowed me to clean out excess stuff around the house. I’m about done with all the laundry. I got the dishwasher emptied and reloaded.

I am definitely a good housewife.

Stupid faucet

I began putting in an outdoor faucet today. I bought the correct PVC pipe and had everything cut right, put it together before cutting into the waterline or gluing, and saw that the guy who lived here before used CPVC.

For those of you like me who don’t/didn’t know the difference, CPVC is smaller and the same size as the old copper tubing (approximately).

So I went back to Lowes and bought all the pieces in CPVC, except one elbow. By the time I realized I was short that piece, it was too late to start hacking into the waterline in case there was a leak or something. I stopped and plan on finishing it tomorrow.

The good news is that everything seems to soft-fit this time as well. Yay, the first of hopefully many home improvement projects this summer.

It’s the last day of school, kids

Today is the last full day of work for most of us left from the old First Cellular. Jeff and Julie will be hanging around for a week or two, but this is it for the rest of us.

I am surprisingly sad. We have known that this day was coming for some time, and even knew it was today for the past 3 months or so. We aren’t angry or anything, but there is a general sad feeling around the office.

As much as there has been bickering now and then, everyone is going to miss everyone else. I’m sure by the end of the day all the girls will be crying and boo-hoo-ing all over the place.

Tomorrow, we come in for our report cards. Really, it will be for our “exit-interviews” and the handing out of final paperwork. I guess we have to do these silly exit-interviews since all the cool companies are doing them. Then, we go home for good.

Probably be done by 10.

Microwave your daughter lately?

I have just read the latest “The devil made him do it” article. In this particular instance, a man put a two month old into a microwave and cooked her for about 10-20 seconds.

The mother (yes, the mother) is actually defending this piece of shit. For that, she will hopefully not be allowed to retain custody of her child. Obviously, the idiot that tried to fry her should be fried himself, but how can anyone seriously consider allowing this idiotic mother to have contact with her child?

She is defending the jackass that tried to kill her daughter. What kind of warped world do we live in?

He caused severe burns to the poor child and he faces only 5-99 years in prison. I hope he gets the full 99. I would prefer the death penalty, but it is unfortunately not an option in this case.
