Elections Have Consequences

OK, here’s a little tax quiz. How does the US government raise ~$500 Billion over 5 years without raising taxes? The answer, by doing absolutely NOTHING. Man, this is just sweet for the Liberals in Congress. They get all this extra money to spend and they don’t have to take ANY political hits by passing tax increases. This is just plain beautiful, isn’t it? How’d they do it? Just let the Bush tax cuts from ’02, ’03, & ’04 expire. Those tax cuts have completely removed millions from the tax rolls, and saved families with children an average of ~$1500. Those tax cuts doubled the deductions for dependant children, reduced the lower tax bracket from 15% to 10%, eliminated the “marriage penalty”, reduced taxes on capital gains, etc. If the Dems remain in control in Congress and especially if they take the White House in ’08, then the taxes roll back to where they were at the end of Clinton’s reign. Sure they’ll throw some of those tax cuts back to the “people”, but they will keep far more of your money than they will give back. Let’s see, what was that old Karl Marx quote, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need”.

Sex offender banned from MySpace says it isn’t fair

I just read a story on Wired.com about a convicted sex offender that has a letter posted from him saying that it is not fair that MySpace banned him. Um, how fair was it to his victim that he perpetrated his act?

“But I’m changed and God helped me turn my life around…”

How many times have we heard that line of crap? I believe in forgiveness as much as the next person, but there is also common sense in the mix. What is the recidivism rate for sexual crimes when prisoners are released you ask?

Well, I just happened to look that answer on Wikipedia.com:

  • Of the 272,111 persons released from prisons in 15 states in 1994, an estimated 67.5% were rearrested for a felony or serious misdemeanor within 3 years, 46.9% were re-convicted, and 25.4% re-sentenced to prison for a new crime.
  • Sex offenders were about four times more likely than non-sex offenders to be arrested for another sex crime after their discharge from prison – 5.3 percent of sex offenders versus 1.3 percent of non-sex offenders.

I will forgive your crime and take you at face value for your redemption, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to let my kids around you.

Concealed carry is a bad idea and this story proves it

If you don’t recognize sarcasm, the title is definitely full of sarcasm. I just read this story where a man licensed for concealed carry in Michigan used his lawful right to carry as it was intended.

Apparently some idiot and his gang were going around robbing and attempting to steal cars from people. They finally came across a gentleman washing his car, brandished a pistol, and the victim pulled his weapon and mortally wounded the criminal.

The police properly cited self defense in this case and let the man go, with his pistol.

Please go and read the article and comments. There is some moron defending the criminal in the comments saying he was “a good guy” and “in school”. Well, then, he shouldn’t have been robbing people if he learned about Michigan’s CC law in school.

Sad someone died? Yes. Do I feel the victim did the right thing? Yep.
