9 out of 10 Rights, Not So Bad, Is It?

Looks like things are continuing down that slippery slope in IL. This all started with the issuance of the Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card back in the early ’70’s (or maybe late ’60’s). It seems that the Senate passed it’s latest anti-gun bill last week which essentially banned the manufacture, delivery, sale, purchase, or possession or cause to be manufactured, delivered, sold, purchased, or possessed a large capacity ammunition feeding device (i.e. more than 10 rounds).

The IL House passed their version out of Committee yesterday and will be voting soon, maybe as early as Friday, May 25. It’s going to be a close vote so please call your representative TODAY. If the House passes the bill, you just know that the IL gov will sign it.

I guess in my home state (it’s where I was born/raised), people get to enjoy only Amendments 1, and 3-10, in the Bill of Rights. Seems like they have a problem with the 2nd Amendment in the Land of Lincoln. So why haven’t the ISRA, NRA, GOA, RKBA, etc come together to repeal the unconstitutional and illegal (in my opinion) FOID card after 30+ years? It’s only going to get worse in IL as long as the Dems (and Mayor Daley) are in control. Only 2 states have a total ban on concealed carry for it’s citizens, Wisconsin, and yep you guessed it, Illinois. Something’s just not right back home (I live in GA at the moment).

Sex offender banned from MySpace says it isn’t fair

I just read a story on Wired.com about a convicted sex offender that has a letter posted from him saying that it is not fair that MySpace banned him. Um, how fair was it to his victim that he perpetrated his act?

“But I’m changed and God helped me turn my life around…”

How many times have we heard that line of crap? I believe in forgiveness as much as the next person, but there is also common sense in the mix. What is the recidivism rate for sexual crimes when prisoners are released you ask?

Well, I just happened to look that answer on Wikipedia.com:

  • Of the 272,111 persons released from prisons in 15 states in 1994, an estimated 67.5% were rearrested for a felony or serious misdemeanor within 3 years, 46.9% were re-convicted, and 25.4% re-sentenced to prison for a new crime.
  • Sex offenders were about four times more likely than non-sex offenders to be arrested for another sex crime after their discharge from prison – 5.3 percent of sex offenders versus 1.3 percent of non-sex offenders.

I will forgive your crime and take you at face value for your redemption, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to let my kids around you.

Boy, a company keeps a lot of junk in 12 years

We just finished shredding 10,000 pounds of paper. If it was paper or plastic (discs) it was shredded. Apparently this company has collected a lot of stuff in its 12 year life.

Now, there is nothing to clear out but the cubicles, desks, and office supplies. Those will all be sold “bulk” to the highest bidder. There are a few gems in the mix, but most of it is just standard junk like staplers, 3-hole punch, etc.

All of us agree it was pretty tiring. Especially in the heat with no A/C. Oh well, it is over and we had fun destroying. Ever notice how destruction is more fun than building?
